Main point summary
Paul warns Timothy that the Spirit clearly prophesies that in the later times people will fall away from the faith and listen to demonic teachings. This will occur through the false teaching of certain liars who forbid marriage and certain foods which God has given for our good.

It is unclear to me if the means of falling away is the paying attention to deceitful spirits (as in the ESV and ELB) or that a step after falling away is paying attention to these spirits (as in NET, NIV, LUT and SCHL). I have chosen the latter for the arc, although both may in fact be true.
