notes
Main point summary
The disciples of John and the Pharisees ask Jesus why His disciples are not fasting. Jesus answers saying that during the wedding, when the bridegroom is present his friends do not fast. Later, when the Bridegroom is taking away, there will be time for fasting. Jesus then gives two parables, one of the patch of cloth and one about wineskins to illustrate that the old cannot accommodate the new. (The parable of the bridegroom raises the question who Jesus is. The parable implies that He is the bridegroom - a picture God uses to describe Himself. (See Isa. 62:5, Hos. 2:19-20.) If Jesus is indeed God and the promised Messiah, then a new age has dawned (the kingdom age). This is why I believe Jesus continues with the parables of the patch and the wineskins. They are an explanation of the deeper meaning of the parable of the bridegroom.)

questionanswer
I do not think that the fact that the bridegroom is taken away is the reason that the friends of the bridegroom will later fast (Ac/Res or Sit/R). Whether they fast or not is due to the protocol of the wedding. During the wedding it is forbidden to fast. After the wedding, fasts are again possible.
The parable of the bridegroom raises the question who Jesus is. They are an explanation of the deeper meaning of the parable of the bridegroom.
