Vision of the Lampstand with Olive Trees

Zachariah sees a vision of a lampstand surrounded by two olive trees. He asks the accompanying angel for the meaning of the vision. The angel first says that God's spirit is working with Zerubbabel to rebuild the temple and that he will finish it. Therefore no one should despise the small start. The angel then explains that the lampstand is the eyes of the Lord and the olive trees are two anointed ones who stand by the Lord.

Das sind die beiden Gesalbten, welche vor dem Herrscher der ganzen Erde stehen.

Rhetorical question: You, O great mountain, are nothing.

Rhetorical question: No one should despise the day of small beginnings.

This is the first part of the answer to the question posed in v4b.

Through God's Spirit and not the power of man the great task (like a great mountain) of rebuilding the temple will be completed by Zerubbabel.

Zechariah sees a vision of a lampstand surrounded by two olive trees and ask an accompanying angel to explain the vision to him.

Zachariah asks once more for the meaning of the olive trees and the clusters emptying oil into the lampstand. The angel answers that these are two anointed ones who stand by the Lord.

Just as Zerubbabel has started the project, he will complete it bringing about that all will know that Zechariah has been sent by the Lord. No one should despise the small beginnings because God is rejoicing in the work and by the way, the lampstand represents the eyes of the Lord.

I assume "me" refers to Zechariah.

The Spirit of the Lord is working with Zerubbabel to build the temple so he will complete it, so do not despise the small beginning. Also the lampstand is the eyes of the Lord.

“What are the two olive branches which are beside the two golden pipes, which empty the golden oil from themselves?”

So he answered me, saying,

Er sprach zu mir: Weißt du nicht, was diese bedeuten?

“Do you not know what these are?”

And I said,

“No, my lord.”

Then he said,

Ich antwortete: Nein, mein Herr! Da sprach er: Das sind die beiden Gesalbten, welche vor dem Herrscher der ganzen Erde stehen.

“These are the two anointed ones who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth.”

Zerubbabel will complete the temple because God's Spirit and not man at work.

Zerubbabel will complete the temple and then the people will know that the Lord has sent Zechariah. Therefore they should not despise the small start. God is rejoicing in the work.
