notes
Main point summary
A hidden truth (mystery) that is now revealed is that the marriage relationship is an image of Christ's relationship to His church. The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church and the wife is the body of the husband (They are one flesh.) as the church is the body of Christ. Thus Paul instructs wives to submit to and respect their husbands as the church is subject to Christ and husbands to love their wives as Christ loves His church.

inference
The reason that wives should be subject to their husbands is because the husband is the head of the wife.
Explanatory instead of causal. "After all" may be a better translation than "Because". Christ doesn't love us because we are members of His body. We are nourished and cherished since after all we are members of His body. (From An Exegetical Commentary on the Greek Text of the New Testament , Lectionary Bible Studies and Sermons)
As the church relates to Christ as her head in submission, so should wives relate to their husbands, since a husband is the head of his wife.
As Christ loved the church, giving Himself up for her, so should husbands love their wives.
Paul uses this quote from Genesis to prove to the husbands that their wives are "as their own bodies" and thus they should "nourish and cherish" them.
Because a husband and a wife are "one flesh", a husband should love his wife as he does his own body just as Christ "nourishes and cases" for His body, the church.
In Summary, husbands are to love their wives and wives are to respect their husbands.

discourse
Phrase
Ephesians 5:22-33
Wives to Husbands
Wives, be subject to your own husbands,
as to the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife,
as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.
But as the church is subject to Christ,
so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.
Husbands to Wives
Husbands, love your wives,
just as Christ also loved the church
and gave Himself up for her,
so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her
by the washing of water with the word,
that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory,
having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing;
but that she would be holy and blameless.
So husbands ought also to love their own wives
as their own bodies.
He who loves his own wife loves himself;
for no one ever hated his own flesh,
but nourishes and cherishes it,
just as Christ also does the church,
because we are members of His body.
For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother
and shall be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.
This mystery is great;
but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
Summary
Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife
even as himself,
and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
