Martha, I think, was not wrong in wanting to serve the Lord. However, she thought that serving Him was more important than being served by Him. This is a great misunderstanding, likely rooted by pride in her heart, wanting to glorify herself and earn Christ's favor on her own. Mary understood that she really had nothing to give and instead was content to receive without worrying that she would not win Jesus' favor. On some level she understood that she had it already, not because of what she had or could do for Him, but because she believed that He was who He said He was, the Son of God and Savior of mankind. Christ's words are precious and valued above any service we may do in the name of God. For if we don't hide His Word in our hearts we are ignoring the wisdom and guidance He provides through it.
