This arc explores the flow of thought in Gal 3:1-14. As I understand the passage, Paul reiterates the main point three times with three different expressions. In 3:7, he states that those from faith are sons of Abraham; in 3;9 he states that those from faith are blessed with Abraham; and in 3:11, he states that the righteous live from faith. I take all three of these to be equivalent statements. Important questions in this text are: How closely does Paul intend to tie receiving the Spirit by faith to justification by the transition between 3:5 and 3:6? Why does Deut 27:26 prove that all are under the curse of the law (Answer: because no one call fulfill the law's requirements sufficiently to avoid its curse)? Does delon in 3:11 belong with the preceding or following clause (I chose the latter in this arc, but I admit that it is a debatable issue)? Should the two hina clauses in 3:14 be understood as coordinate or is the first subordinate to the second (I went with coordinate)?

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?
οἷς κατ’ ὀφθαλμοὺς Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς προεγράφη ἐσταυρωμένος;
before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.
ideaexplanation
Let me ask you only this:
Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law
ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως;
or by hearing with faith?
alternative
οὕτως ἀνόητοί ἐστε;
Are you so foolish?
Having begun by the Spirit,
νῦν σαρκὶ ἐπιτελεῖσθε;
are you now being perfected by the flesh?
concessive
τοσαῦτα ἐπάθετε εἰκῇ;
Did you suffer/experience so many things in vain--
if indeed it was in vain?
conditional
Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law,
ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως;
or by hearing with faith--
series
inference
just as Abraham "believed God,
and it was counted to him as righteousness"?

comparison
Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.
And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith,
preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham,
saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed."
So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
bilateral
For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse;
for it is written, "Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law in order to do them."
ground
Now because no one is justified before God in the Law,
it is clear that "The righteous shall live by faith."
But the law is not of faith,
rather "The one who does them shall live by them."
negativepositive
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law
by becoming a curse for us--
actionmanner
for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree"--
so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles,
so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.
