The main point of the verse is fortunately in v. 1 where Paul calls the believers to walk in a manner worhty of their calling. The main thing that Paul is going to say that looks like is walking in unity as the body of Christ. Verses 4-16 act as the grounds for the main point found in v. 1-3. Inside of v. 4-16 Paul makes a contrast between the big idea (v. 4-6) of the body, which is that there is a unity in what God is doing so they should be unified, and the small idea (v. 7-16) of the body, which is that God has equipped individuals and given them to the church so that you will be unified.

Therefore (because of this great salvation that you have been called into that I just talked about in Ch's 1-3) I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience,
(the manner in which you are to walk is) enduring one another in love,
( Also ) being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace
series
actionmanner
(Let me give the reason for the unity that I just mentioned by saying) there is one body
and (there is) one Spirit,
just as aslo you were called in one hope of your calling
comparison
( and there is) one Lord,
( and there is) one faith,
( and there is) one baptism,
( and there is) one God and Father of all, ( explaining him let me say) the one who is over all and through all and in all of us
But (contrasting the big idea of the body of Christ with the individuals that compose it let me say) to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ
Therefore it says, (meaning what I just said can be shown to line up with the OT) "having ascended on high he captured the captives, he gave gifts to people."
τὸ δὲ ἀνέβη τί ἐστιν εἰ μὴ ὅτι καὶ κατέβη εἰς τὰ κατώτερα μέρη τῆς γῆς;
( Therefore let us) Now (transitioning into my interpretation of the passage just cited) what is the meaning 'he ascended' except that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?
(further explaining this passage let me say) The one having gone down himself is also the one having come up far above all the heavens,

(going back to what I said in v. 7 about Christ giving us gifts let me say more) and he himself gave some apostles, and prophets, and evangelists, and shepherds also teachers,
(the purpose of Jesus giving these ministers was) toward the equipping of the saints unto the work of ministry, unto the building up of the body of Christ,
until (that future point in time when) we all might attain to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature person, to the measure of Christ's full stature,

(Christ gave gifted people to the church) in order that we might no longer be children, being tossed by waves and being carried around in all wind of doctrine by the cunningness of people by deceitfulness towards the schemes of error,
But rather being truthful with love we might grow up into him with reference to all things, who is the head, the Christ,
(let me explain Christ who is the origin and goal of the bodies growth) from whom all the body...[moved to 16b]...causes the growth of the body to building itself up in love.
