Built up into God's temple

You, as believers, are being built as living stones into God's eternal temple in order to give yourselves to him in the Messiah. Whereas non-believers have rejected the keystone (i.e. Jesus) necessary to solidify their lives, and instead trip over it and fall.

πρὸς ὃν προσερχόμενοι

As you come to him,

אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם נִגָּשִׁים אֵלָיו –

λίθον ζῶντα ὑπὸ ἀνθρώπων μὲν ἀποδεδοκιμασμένον

a living stone n rejected by men

אֶבֶן חַיָּה שֶׁמְּאָסוּהָ בְּנֵי אָדָם,

παρὰ δὲ θεῷ ἐκλεκτὸν ἔντιμον,

but in the sight of God chosen and precious,

אַךְ נִבְחָרָה וִיקָרָה לֵאלֹהִים.

ἀνενέγκαι πνευματικὰς θυσίας εὐπροσδέκτους θεῷ διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

r to offer spiritual sacrifices s acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

כְּדֵי לְהַעֲלוֹת זִבְחֵי רוּחַ רְצוּיִים לֵאלֹהִים בִּזְכוּת יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ.

For it stands in Scripture:

מִשּׁוּם כָּךְ אוֹמֵר הַכָּתוּב:

ἰδοὺ τίθημι ἐν Σιὼν λίθον ἀκρογωνιαῖον ἐκλεκτὸν ἔντιμον

t “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious,

" הִנְנִי יִסַּד בְּצִיּוֹן אֶבֶן פִּנָּה נִבְחָרָה וִיקָרָה,

καὶ ὁ πιστεύων ἐπʼ αὐτῷ

u and whoever believes in him

וְהַמַּאֲמִין בָּהּ

οὐ μὴ καταισχυνθῇ .

will not be put to shame.”

לֹא יֵבוֹשׁ."

ὑμῖν οὖν ἡ τιμὴ τοῖς πιστεύουσιν,

So the honor is for you who v believe,

עַל כֵּן לָכֶם הַמַּאֲמִינִים הִיא אֶבֶן הַיְּקָר,

ἀπιστοῦσιν δὲ

but for those who v do not believe,

אֲבָל לַסּוֹרְרִים –

λίθος ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας

w “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, [keystone]” 1

" אֶבֶן מָאֲסוּ הַבּוֹנִים הָיְתָה לְרֺאשׁ פִּנָּה ",

καὶ λίθος προσκόμματος καὶ πέτρα σκανδάλου •

and x “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.”

וְגַם " אֶבֶן נֶגֶף וְצוּר מִכְשׁוֹל ."

οἳ προσκόπτουσιν τῷ λόγῳ ἀπειθοῦντες

They stumble because they disobey the word,

וְאָמְנָם הֵם נִכְשָׁלִים בַּדָּבָר בִּגְלַל סַרְבָנוּתָם,

εἰς ὃ καὶ ἐτέθησαν.

וּלְכָךְ גַּם נוֹעֲדוּ.
