Paul clarifies that the law is not opposed to the promise as they were never the two ways to meet the same end the purpose of the two were totally different one was to show that sin is more sinful i.e the law and the other was for the salation through faith i.e the promise. So it is the promise that justifies and the law that condemns. The law comdemns both the jew and the gentile(concience refer Romans) and so both are under the curse but christ became the curse and brought the promise to all who have faith. The inference is tht there is no jew or gentile........ all are one in christ and not under the law but under the promise.

Why the Law then?
Why then the law?
It was added
It was added
because of transgressions,
because of transgressions,

having been ordained
...and it was put in place
through angels by the agency of a mediator,
through angels by an intermediary......

until the seed would come
.until the offspring should come
to whom the promise had been made.
to whom the promise had been made,
ideaexplanation
alternative
Now a mediator is not for one party only;
Now an intermediary implies more than one,
whereas God is only one.
but God is one.
Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God?
Is the law then contrary to the promises of God?
May it never be!
Certainly not!
For if a law had been given which was able to impart life,
For if a law had been given that could give life,
then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.
then righteousness would indeed be by the law.
conditional
But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin,
But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin,
so that the promise.... might be given
so that the promise..... might be given
to those who believe.....
to those who believe.......
