I have been consumed by Romans 8 ever since I heard Piper preach on it. Perhaps I was a bit too ambitious trying to arc this long passage as my first attempt. Here is my arc, and here is a brief summary of what, I think, the arc says: "We who are in Christ Jesus have been set free! We are no longer condemned, and we no longer are in bondage to the law of sin and death! God did it. He sent his own Son in the likeness of flesh to condemn sin in the flesh, so that now we who have the Spirit of Christ may have the righteous requirement of the law fulfilled in us. When he did this, he created two realities: one for those who live according to the flesh, and one for those who live according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the flesh can't please God, because thier minds are hostile to God, always set on ways that lead to death. We, on the other hand, have the Spirit of God in us! We belong to Christ! Our minds are set on life and peace, our spirit is life because of His righteousness, and God will breathe life into our bodies! Our minds, our spirit, and our bodies are all made new, not by anything that we have done or will do, but by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit! Praise the Lord!"

Romans 8:1-11
NT
esv
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
ground
For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.
By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh
and for sin,
series
he condemned sin in the flesh,
in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk not according to the flesh
but according to the Spirit.
negativepositive
actionpurpose
actionmanner
ideaexplanation
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,
but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
alternative
For to set the mind on the flesh is death,
but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
actionresult
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God,
for it does not submit to God's law;
indeed, it cannot.
Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
inference
You, however, are not in the flesh
but in the Spirit,
if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.
Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
But if Christ is in you,
although the body is dead because of sin,
the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
concessive
conditional
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,
he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
through his Spirit who dwells in you.
