v14 Inferred from 2:21-22 (being built into a dwelling place of God), or from somewhere else? v15 What does it mean for a family to 'be named'? v15-17 Why does Paul feel it necessary to have 'strength' in order to have 'faith' for which to have Christ dwell in our hearts? What is behind Paul's thinking with all of the power language? Or, Paul believes that God must strengthen a person to believe and persevere in Christ? If above is true, what does the believer need that strength/power for? How does he use it? (A: to battle against the rulers and powers of this present darkness) v18 Why does Paul describe and pray that the audience/believers would be able to know the love of Christ 'that surpasses knowledge'? Is this a contradictory prayer or does Paul mean two different kinds of 'knowing'? v18b Is Paul thinking eschatologically in his reference to 'all the saints'...b/c do all the saints on earth know the love of Christ this way? Do any on earth? Then again, do saints in heaven know the full love of Christ...or is it too great for finite beings to know in one instant and will be revealed to them, without the blindness of sin, progressively throughout eternity? v19 What is the fullness of God in this context? (we've seen before in 1:23 that Christ fulfills 'all in all') Is this the same idea...that Christ is the fullness and we should be filled with Christ? (A: it's syllogism) ------------- Seems like Paul's 'power language' here in Eph could be understood from Rom 1:16, '...the gospel, which is the power of God for salvation...' Does being 'founded in love' relate to the 'foundation on the apostles and prophets'
