I'm not really sure how to classify this bit [passage] in light of the rest of the prologue. It's the 'means' by which He came, it's the 'result' of His coming... I think it further explains the incarnation, broadly described in the previous verses. So, how does this passage flow? There's a tie in between seeing His glory and no one ever seeing God. As well as receiving grace upon grace from His fullness. I guess we'll just take it in 3.5 chunks. I. The Tabernacling of God & Witness of His glory II. His Identification By John III. What We Received Via The Word & Identification of the Word IV. Conclusion & Purpose of the Incarnation

"This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me,
ὅτι πρῶτός μου ἦν
because he was before me.'")

ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ πληρώματος αὐτοῦ ἡμεῖς πάντες ἐλάβομεν καὶ χάριν ἀντὶ χάριτος
And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
ὅτι ὁ νόμος διὰ Μωϋσέως ἐδόθη
For the law was given through Moses;
ἡ χάρις καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια
grace and truth came
διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐγένετο
