I appeal to you, brothers, 1 by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree,
Παρακαλῶ δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, διὰ τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἵνα τὸ αὐτὸ λέγητε πάντες,
and that there be no p divisions among you,
καὶ μὴ ᾖ ἐν ὑμῖν σχίσματα,
but that you be united q in the same mind and the same judgment.
ἦτε δὲ κατηρτισμένοι ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ νοῒ καὶ ἐν τῇ αὐτῇ γνώμῃ.

For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people
ἐδηλώθη γάρ μοι περὶ ὑμῶν, ἀδελφοί μου, ὑπὸ τῶν Χλόης
that there is r quarreling among you, my brothers.
ὅτι ἔριδες ἐν ὑμῖν εἰσιν.
What I mean is that s each one of you says,
λέγω δὲ τοῦτο ὅτι ἕκαστος ὑμῶν λέγει·
“I follow Paul,”
Ἐγὼ μέν εἰμι Παύλου,
or “I follow t Apollos,”
Ἐγὼ δὲ Ἀπολλῶ,
or “I follow u Cephas,”
Ἐγὼ δὲ Κηφᾶ,
or “I follow Christ.”
Ἐγὼ δὲ Χριστοῦ.

I thank God that I baptized none of you except x Crispus and y Gaius,
⸀ εὐχαριστῶ ὅτι οὐδένα ὑμῶν ἐβάπτισα εἰ μὴ Κρίσπον καὶ Γάϊον,
so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name.
ἵνα μή τις εἴπῃ ὅτι εἰς τὸ ἐμὸν ὄνομα ⸀ ἐβαπτίσθητε·

ἐβάπτισα δὲ καὶ τὸν Στεφανᾶ οἶκον· λοιπὸν οὐκ οἶδα εἴ τινα ἄλλον ἐβάπτισα.
For Christ did not send me to baptize
οὐ γὰρ ἀπέστειλέν με Χριστὸς βαπτίζειν
but to preach the gospel,
ἀλλὰ εὐαγγελίζεσθαι,
and a not with words of eloquent wisdom,
οὐκ ἐν σοφίᾳ λόγου,
lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
ἵνα μὴ κενωθῇ ὁ σταυρὸς τοῦ Χριστοῦ.
