In 1 Cor.10:14-22, Paul is urging the Corinthians to flee idolatry. He does so by grounding this strong exhortation in various reasons including: 1. When we celebrate the bread and cup of the Lord's Supper, we are sharing in the sacrifice of Christ. 2. When we celebrate the Lord's Supper we are experiencing unity together. 3. When the children of Israel would eat of the sacrifices, they were sharing in the sacrifices that had been made on their behalf. 4. Thus, for the Corinthians to eat the meals which had been offered to idols, was to share in the very sacrifice that had been made, and to unite with the pagan worshippers. In doing so, they were actually sharing in demons! If they persisted in this practice they would provoke the Lord to jealousy and wrath and come under His judgment as the children of Israel had (1Cor.10:7-10).
