Commentary
Paul concludes this letter of exhortation and warning to Timothy with a simple instruction: “Guard the deposit entrusted to you” (6:20a). We must guard the deposit of truth and knowledge of Jesus Christ, for our lives truly do depend on it. “Irreverent babble” and debates about false-knowledge will lead us to hell, leaving behind the saving truth of resting in Christ who has supplied our righteousness through his death and resurrection. Therefore, may God give us grace to avoid what is deadly and cling to what gives life, guarding it for the sake of the church and our own souls.
