If anyone thinks he is religious
If, even though a person considers himself a religious person,
q and does not bridle his tongue
but he does not guard his tongue and is not careful of his words,
but deceives his heart,
but does fool himself,

this person’s r religion is worthless.
then his religion has no value
conditional
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this:
because true religion (as God sees it) looks like this:
s to visit t orphans and widows in their affliction,
meaning , that person will look out and care for those less fortunate,
and u to keep oneself v unstained from the world.

Meditation
Anybody can talk a good game. I can call myself religious, spiritual, a believer and go around quoting Bible verses, talking doctrine. That doesn't make me religious, spiritual or a believer. The Pharisees did that. Being a follower of Jesus is more talk, more than knowing what the Bible says. What God calls pure religion is the fruit. It is doing, not just knowing or speaking, that has the final word.
