BRIEF SUMMARY OF PHIL 2:14-16 Paul, having told the Philippians to work out their salvation (12d), gives in these verses a more narrow application of what such 'working out' will include. The command given in v. 14a is that they do everything without grumbling or questioning. Fulfillment of this command will take place through their holding fast to the Word (v. 16a). The command has two intended purposes: (1) that the Philippian church would be blameless witnesses of God in a crooked society (v. 15), and (2) that Paul himself would be, at that eschatological day of judgment, proud that his sowing has produced good and lasting fruit (v. 16b-16c).
