The Central Idea: The Gospel requires a full-orbed repentance: out with the old; in with the new. Explanations: I need more time with 18-19. Not sure of the inner relationships nor am I convinced that this is the explanation for why the Gentiles walk the way they do. Insights: Teach and Exhort: Paul is exhorting the Ephesians to live in a manner that corresponds with the teaching they received in the gospel. The Gentiles have never been taught (efficaciously), and so they remain in their sin. However, the believers, have been taught to fully repent and so they need to be exhorted to live in accordance with what they have been taught. Questions:

Therefore I say this and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk
just as also the Gentiles walk , in the futility of their minds.
comparison
They a re darkened in their understanding,
alienated from the life of God
because of the ignorance that is in them,
due to their callous heart.
actionresult
They have become callous
and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.
ideaexplanation
But that is not the way you learned Christ!--
if indeed you have heard about him and were taught in him,
just as the truth is in Jesus,
conditional
to put off your old man, which belongs to your former manner of life
which is corrupt through deceitful desires,
and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
and to put on the new man,
that which has been created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
