Notes
The wedding at Cana displays Jesus as the eternal joy-giver and the temple clearing displays His seriousness in regard to His Father's will and ways. His joy and seriousness are consistent with His eternal nature since joy is the right response to good things and seriousness right for bad things. Neither is one elevated over the other. They are both of equal value shown in Jesus words and deeds throughout His whole time on earth. Why is this important? - Countless wrong implications can be drawn if one attribute of Jesus Christ is elevated over another. The record of the wedding in Cana finishes with belief and so does this record of the clearing of the temple courts. John mentions people who believe, who apparently believe, and others who reject Jesus as God. 2000 years later, these things have not changed. There are still these three categories of people. Which are you in?

Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast,
many believed in His name
when they saw the signs which He did.
But Jesus did not commit Himself to them,
because He knew all men,
and had no need that anyone should testify of man,
for He knew what was in man.
