Just as in the manner of servants that set their eyes in need on the help of their masters,
As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,
and as a maid sets her eye in knowledge of dependency on her mistress,

Therefore, have mercy on us,
O Lord , have mercy on us!
O Lord, have mercy on us!

Our soul is exceedingly filled With the scorn of those who are at ease,
That is, our soul is overwhelmed with the disdain of those who think themselves great by disrespecting everybody else,

Notes
In Israels oppression they looked for God to have mercy on them. What we look at affects our situation greatly. If we look to the Lord for help, then hope rises. But if we focus on the difficulty, then things seem hopeless. A prayer of repentance shaped by some points of this Psalm I'm looking to You, my Lord, till Your mercy is on me. Lord, I confess that I have said things and acted as one who is at ease and proud. It happens sometimes unknowingly in my weakness, but that fact doesn't bring rest to my soul. If it were only me who would suffer from my selfish actions, Lord, then it would be right. But, my God, others are affected when I act selfishly. I am looking to You and pray that the peace of Christ's finished work may liberate me from guilt feelings. Thank You Father, that Christ bore the just punishment I deserve. Thank You that my sins are taken from me. Thank You that He rose form the dead. Thank You for new life in Him. Once again I realize that in me, that is in my "selfish me", is no good thing, but thank You for a "self-giving me" in Christ and the resources to live a God-honoring life in the Spirit. I am weak and needy Lord. I need You desperately and at all times. Help for Your own names sake and the good of the people around me. Amen.
