Grace has the power to strengthen (v.1) and we must "be strengthened" by it, not try to strengthen ourselves. Strength from grace equips believers to equip other believers to spread the Gospel. As a "soldier of Christ Jesus", we are to (v.3-6) Not get distracted from our task by lesser things Live in accordance with the commands of the Gospel Look forward to the future reward for our labors God gives understanding of commands through meditation (v. 7) Don't forget about Jesus, who is the end, and not the means. The Gospel is not just a cause. It centers around a Person. (v. 8) Natural to living in light of the Gospel is suffering. (v. 9a) The Gospel is not dependent on us, or our state of being, and it cannot be restricted (v. 9b) Verse 10 - Paul says that he endures everything (suffering) because of the fact that he is aware that the Word of God is not bound. He sees purpose to suffering because he recognizes that the power of the Gospel is not restricted by his being "bound" and that God is still powerfully at work. We should see our sufferings as part of God's working in the world, and not let ourselves reach dispair becuase we are under the illusion that if we are in poor condition, then the Gospel is in poor condition. The Gospel is powerful even when we are not. Salvation is in Christ Jesus Christ's work enables us to live and reign with him (v. 11-12a) Those who deny Christ (unbelievers) will not be denied by Christ (12b) Paul's distinction between those who "deny" Christ, and those who are "faithless" is noteworthy (v. 12-13) First, the two outcomes are different (those who deny receive a negative response, yet those who are faithless still benefit from Christ's faithfulness. Those who deny Christ are unbelievers. Those who are "faithless" are believers who are wavering in their walk with God, yet are upheld by the faithfulness of Christ . Verse 13c explains that Christ is faithful despite our faithlessness because it is in his character. This has important implications - we are to rely on Christ to strengthen and uphold us. Our salvation is secure, and we no longer need to worry about Christ abandoning us. B y recognizing it is Christ's faithfulness that keeps us, not our own, we are able to focus more on the mission of God to the world, rather than being preoccupied with worries and works to secure our own salvation (cf. Jude 24-25).

actionpurpose
Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
As a soldier of Christ Jesus, you must share in suffering.
No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits,
A soldier is not distracted by civilian goals
since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.
because his goal is to please his master

ideaexplanation
Think over what I say,
Meditate on these things
for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
because as you do, God will allow you to understand everything
Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel,
Remember Jesus , who is no longer dead but risen, and who was prophesied to come from David. This is the Jesus I preach in my Gospel.
for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal.
I suffer for this gospel. I am locked up like a criminal.
But the word of God is not bound!
But despite the fact that I am bound, the Word of God is not bound!
alternative
Therefore I endure everything
Because the Word of God is not bound, I now endure this suffering.
for the sake of the elect ,
because I know that God will save his people
that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
and his people will receive salvation through Jesus Christ with eternal glory
The saying is trustworthy,
Trust in this:
for: If we have died with him,
If we have died (already) with him,
we will also live with him;
we will also live (future) with him.
conditional
if we endure,
we will also reign with him;
if we deny him,
he also will deny us;
if we are faithless,
he remains faithful--
for he cannot deny himself.
