In romans 2:28 Paul says that a Jew is not just a Jew outwardly, nor is circumcision outward or merely a physical act, but being a true Jew is being inwardly a Jew, and he makes the same connection with circumcision being a heart issue not a physical one. Then he asks what advantage the Jews have, or what the value of circumcision is? What I note about these question he asks is, it seems that the Jews whole emphasis is on being a Jew, and being circumcised, and these things are central. Paul is stating however that they are not central because these things are not outward issues they are hidden things, in the heart (For no one is a Jew who is a Jew outwardly) so if these things that are central to the Jews who were boasting in the Law and their circumcision are no longer central then what is the advantage of even being a Jew? Paul answers back not by saying, the advantage is not in the Law or in the heritage, but that they were entrusted with the oracles of God, they, first were given the things of God it began with them. Paul asks the question "what advantage is it to be a Jew?" He then answers the advantage what we have is the ability to see and know God, the things of God, the scriptures were given to us, the arc of the covenant was given to us, God chose us to be the ones who would receive the Holy Land, we are those people. Unlike, the gentiles who do not know Him, but the Jews have that advantage.
