Question: What gives Paul courage? v.1-5, v.6-8, v.9-10, v.16-18 We are of good courage becuz... 1) He will redeem our sufferings. Trials help produce these rewards for us (Kristi, mom, miscarriage) And because of that we focus on the eternal How were you this week at focusing on the eternal? Give an example. 2) He will renew our sinful bodies bad eyes, acid reflux, chronic pain, slowing down... He has given us His Spirit as a guarantee 3) He will resurrect our souls Death is preferable to life! 4) He will reward us for service to Him All the struggle to please Him today will all be worth it in the end I struggle with Shelps' attitude, tired, hot, overworked and not worshipful Question: Story of swimmer heading to Catalina that stopped. I would've kept going if I had known it was so close.

2 Corinthians
2 Corinthians 4:16-5:10
NT
esv
So we do not lose heart.
Though our outer self is wasting away,
our inner self is being renewed day by day.
For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
concessive
as we look not to the things that are seen
but to the things that are unseen.
negativepositive
For the things that are seen are transient,
but the things that are unseen are eternal.
ground
actionmanner
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed,
we have a building from God,
" a house not made with hands, "
eternal in the heavens.
ideaexplanation
conditional
For in this tent we groan,
longing to put on our heavenly dwelling,
if indeed by putting it on
we may not be found naked.
actionpurpose
For while we are still in this tent, we groan,
being burdened--
not that we would be unclothed,
but that we would be further clothed,
so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
progression
He who has prepared us for this very thing is God,
because He who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
So we are always of good courage.
We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord,
for we walk by faith, not by sight.
Yes, we are of good courage,
and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
So whether we are at home or away,
we make it our aim to please him.
actionresult
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
