Topic - Spiritually Blessed in Christ Subject : Exegetical idea: Subject: what is the question the text is asking? (3-14) Why should God be blessed/praised? (15-23) What does Paul pray for based upon all he has done for us in Christ. Complement: The answer in the specific biblical language. (3-23) God is to be praised for every spiritual blessing we have in Christ individually (what God has done for us in work of Christ) and prays that we know this corporately (3-14) God is to be blessed/praised because he has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ: Father has elected us in eternity past (4-6); Son has redeemed us in our historical past (7-10); Spirit has sealed us individually and personally in our historical past (13-14). In short, God reminds us what he had done for us individually in Christ. (15-23) because we have every spiritual blessing, evidenced in faith working thru love toward the saint/church: Paul gives thanks for evidence of grace in Ephesian saints (15-16a) Paul prays Father of glory give Ephesian saints Spirit of W & R (16-17) content of prayer: that the Ephesian saints know : their present hope, future inheritance, and God's power the ground or basis of content of prayer is displayed in Christ's Resurrection and Exaltation (19c-23) Homiletical Idea: Subject: Why should God be praised (3-14) and therefore what should we pray? (15-23) short: Praise and Prayer Complement: Praise God God for every spiritual blessing we have in Christ individually . (3-14_) Therefore, we should pray that believers understand what God has done for us corporately .
