discourse
Topic - saved and sanctified Subject : Exegetical idea: Subject: what is the the relationship between grace and salvation and works? Saved by objective means of grace thru the subjective means of faith which is the work of God and thus removes any ground for boasting in human works. Yet we are: the work of God, created in Christ and predestined for good works so that we should walk in them as we walked when we were dead in sin. 1. We are saved by grace thru faith (8-9) a. Let me clarify: this (salvation, grace, and faith) is not own doing/work c. alternatively, it is the gift of God d. again, to emphasize, grace opposed to works d. Purpose of grace not works is so that no one has ground for boasting 2. Yet We are saved for works (10) a. We are God's workmanship b. that is, Created in Christ c. God created us in Christ for purpose, good works 1. good works that God predestined for us 2. good works predestined for purpose, that we walk consistent with our new nature in contrast to walking consistent with our old nature Homiletical Big Idea: God's grace saves you and sanctifies you Saved by grace and sanctified by grace or Not saved by works but for works Not saved by works but never saved apart from works Homiletical Idea: Subject: What is the relationship between grace/salvation and works? Complement: 1. Salvation is work of God (8-9) a. (salvation, grace, and faith) is gift of God c. thus not works d. Grace crushes human boasting/pride 2. Sanctification is work of God (10) a. Salvation is aspect of New Creation b. that is, Created in Christ c. God predestined our good works purpose ~ we walk consistent with new creation in contrast to walking consistent with our old nature Questions : The relationship between 8-9 and 10 could be G or ID/Exp
