The flow could be described simply. Here is the mind of Christ: He was God, yet did not consider this a thing to be grasped emptied himself..... and being found in human form humbled himself.... Therefore he has been exalted..... and given a name above all names.... so that knee should bow.... and tongue confess..... all for the Glory of God the Father (Question on which level of the discourse this phrase is operating, but grammatically, this fits). Key word: form (morphe) and also likeness (schemati) Key prhases: taking the form of a servant Main idea: Perhaps very simply put, note the servanthood of Christ and the descending humility. Now, note the response of God: his exaltation! We are encouraged to humble ourselves in similar fashion. What we are or have is irrelevant when compared to the exaltation by the Father. Christ subjected himself in more than one way. Not only did he take on humanity and servanthood, but he also became obedient in the process. The congruency of these does not mean that they are one in the same. He humbled himself, and then he humbled himself further, and then finally..... etc. etc. The picture is one of a progressive descension wherein Christ is further and further humbled until finally the ultimate humility: Death on a Cross. His example encourages us to humble ourselves all the more knowing that on the other side awaits the glory God will bestow on all the saints.
