Finally, then, brothers, 1
Λοιπὸν οὖν, ἀδελφοί,
we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you d received from us e how you ought to walk and f to please God, just as you are doing,
ἐρωτῶμεν ὑμᾶς καὶ παρακαλοῦμεν ἐν κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ, ἵνα καθὼς παρελάβετε παρʼ ἡμῶν τὸ πῶς δεῖ ὑμᾶς περιπατεῖν καὶ ἀρέσκειν θεῷ, καθὼς καὶ περιπατεῖτε,
that you g do so more and more.
ἵνα περισσεύητε μᾶλλον.

οἴδατε γὰρ τίνας παραγγελίας ἐδώκαμεν ὑμῖν διὰ τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ.

Τοῦτο γάρ ἐστιν θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ, ὁ ἁγιασμὸς ὑμῶν,
j that you abstain from sexual immorality;
ἀπέχεσθαι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς πορνείας,
that each one of you know how to control his own k body 1 in holiness and l honor,
εἰδέναι ἕκαστον ὑμῶν τὸ ἑαυτοῦ σκεῦος κτᾶσθαι ἐν ἁγιασμῷ καὶ τιμῇ,
not in m the passion of lust n like the Gentiles o who do not know God;
μὴ ἐν πάθει ἐπιθυμίας καθάπερ καὶ τὰ ἔθνη τὰ μὴ εἰδότα τὸν θεόν,

τὸ μὴ ὑπερβαίνειν καὶ πλεονεκτεῖν ἐν τῷ πράγματι τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ,

διότι ἔκδικος κύριος περὶ πάντων τούτων,
as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.
καθὼς καὶ προείπαμεν ὑμῖν καὶ διεμαρτυράμεθα.

For r God has not called us for s impurity,
οὐ γὰρ ἐκάλεσεν ἡμᾶς ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ ἀκαθαρσίᾳ
but in holiness.
ἀλλʼ ἐν ἁγιασμῷ.
Therefore t whoever disregards this,
τοιγαροῦν ὁ ἀθετῶν
disregards not man
οὐκ ἄνθρωπον ἀθετεῖ
but God, u who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
ἀλλὰ τὸν θεὸν τὸν [καὶ] διδόντα τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ τὸ ἅγιον εἰς ὑμᾶς.
Now concerning v brotherly love
Περὶ δὲ τῆς φιλαδελφίας
w you have no need for anyone to write to you,
οὐ χρείαν ἔχετε γράφειν ὑμῖν, αὐτοὶ
for you yourselves have been x taught by God y to love one another,
γὰρ ὑμεῖς θεοδίδακτοί ἐστε εἰς τὸ ἀγαπᾶν ἀλλήλους,
for that indeed is what z you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia.
καὶ γὰρ ποιεῖτε αὐτὸ εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς [τοὺς] ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Μακεδονίᾳ.

But we urge you, brothers, to a do this more and more,
Παρακαλοῦμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, περισσεύειν μᾶλλον
and to aspire b to live quietly,
καὶ φιλοτιμεῖσθαι ἡσυχάζειν
and c to mind your own affairs,
καὶ πράσσειν τὰ ἴδια
and d to work with your hands,
καὶ ἐργάζεσθαι ταῖς [ἰδίαις] χερσὶν ὑμῶν,
as we instructed you,
καθὼς ὑμῖν παρηγγείλαμεν,
so that you may e walk properly before f outsiders and be dependent on no one.
ἵνα περιπατῆτε εὐσχημόνως πρὸς τοὺς ἔξω καὶ μηδενὸς χρείαν ἔχητε.
