Galatians 2.15-21 This is th heart of Paul's letter to the Galatians. It is his Statement of the Gospel. Paul gives us the Correct Perspective on the Gospel. We are Justified by Faith, Not by Works We are Justified by Faith -> Life, not by Law keeping-> Death We have been Crucifed We live in Christ These verses are the pivot of Galatians. He begins the Letter by denouncing the false gospel, followed by stating the source of "his gospel" and the authority by which he proclaims it. Here he states the True Gospel and Resulting Life the verses following explain and defend the stated gospel.

We ourselves are Jews by birth
and not Gentile sinners;
alternative
yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law
concessive
but (am Justified) through faith in Jesus Christ,
so we also have believed in Christ Jesus,
in order to be justified by faith in Christ
and not by works of the law,
negativepositive
actionpurpose
inference
because by works of the law no one will be justified.
ground
But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ,
we too were found to be sinners,
actionresult
ἆρα Χριστὸς ἁμαρτίας διάκονος;
is Christ then a servant of sin?
Certainly not!
questionanswer
For if I rebuild what I tore down,
I prove myself to be a transgressor.
conditional
For through the law I died to the law,
so that I might live to God.
ideaexplanation
I have been crucified with Christ.
It is no longer I who live,
but Christ who lives in me.
And the life I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God,
progression
who loved me
and gave himself for me.
series
I do not nullify the grace of God,
for if righteousness were through the law,
then Christ died for no purpose.
