But be n doers of the word,
Do what the word says
and not hearers only,
and do not be just a listener, letting it go in one ear and out the other, disregarding Scripture,
deceiving yourselves.
you are deluding yourselves.

For if anyone is a hearer of the word
Because if anyone is just a listener of God's Word, not taking it to heart
and not a doer,
and disregards the Word by not doing what it says,

he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.
then he is like someone who studies their reflection in a mirror.
conditional
For he looks at himself
For he studies his reflection, looking at his face
and goes away
and then turns from the mirror and walks away
and at once forgets what he was like.
and immediately forgets what he was like.

not being just a listener who treats the word lightly and then forgets
but a doer who acts,
but a doer of the word, one who acts
p he will be blessed in his doing.

To hear the Word and then disregard what you have heard is folly. Jesus said But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those t who hear the word of God and do it.” Luke 8:21 ESV 28 But he said, r “Blessed rather are those s who hear the word of God and t keep it!” Luke 11:28 ESV
The words of our mouth expose our heart, the Lord said in Luke 6:45 " The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. " Paul said in Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always j be gracious, k seasoned with salt, l so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. James 26c - " deceives his heart" I see this to mean self-deception, this person is telling himself he is OK, what he is doing is not that bad. In contrast to the above, true religion is about serving others, helping those in need. James 2:15-16 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 q and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good 1 is that?
