Main point summary
God only gives good gifts and He never changes. Accordingly He gave the gift of new life.
Notes
After discussing temptations in the previous verses, James reminds us that God is never the source of temptations. Then James gives us the reason to back that up. God only gives good and perfect gifts. James further explains that God never changes so His gifts never change. Then we have the best and supreme example of God's giving of good and perfect gifts. He chose to give us the gift of eternal life by the Word of Truth, that is through Christ, in order that we would be a kind of the first fruits of His creation. We are His prized possessions, set apart for Him. Thus we should become holy for Him.
