I posited that the actions done to the seed were the necessary result of the actions of the soil, albeit passive. Each soil received the word differently-- without understanding, without root, with worries, with understanding. Each seed gets to a different stage, but the soil makes the difference as to how long it can live. The only soil that produced fruit was the soil that received the word deeply and without distraction, (that is, with complete faith, no strings attached). By ending with the good soil, Jesus makes this his crowning point--hear the word of the Kingdom with faith! soemthing surprsing about the kingdom....can be snatched up, rejected, unheard!
