Notes**
Those who have a pure religion are not hearers of the Word only. Rather, the Word affects their hearts and this is evident in their lives. Hearts that have been transformed by the Word of God and that believe in Christ (i.e., have a pure and undefiled religion before God) evidence their salvation in their lives through good works, such as controlling the tongue, visiting orphans and widows, and keeping themselves unstained from the world.
