Paul's "thorn in the flesh" is the means of sanctification used to reveal the power of Christ able to make him strong in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
So f to keep me from becoming conceited
So that I wouldn't exalt myself,
because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, 1
Because of the overwhelming glory and greatness of the person and work of Jesus Christ our Lord.
g a thorn was given me in the flesh,
Therefore , I was given a thorn in the flesh,
h a messenger of Satan to harass me,
who is also a messenger of Satan to aggravate me,
to keep me from becoming conceited.
In order to keep me from becoming boastful in myself.
i Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this,
Because of this I pleaded with the Lord three times about this,
that it should leave me.
That it should leave me.
But he said to me,
Instead , He said to me,
j “My grace is sufficient for you,
"My my grace is far able to sustain you,
for k my power is made perfect in weakness.”
For it is through YOUR weakness that my power is shown most and my glory is revealed."
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses,
Therefore I will glory and be excessively grateful of my weakness,
so that l the power of Christ may rest upon me.
So that the power of Christ may be within me.
m For the sake of Christ,
For Christ sake [the glory and honor of His name]
then, n I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities.
Then , I am content in weaknesses, slander, abuse of all kinds, and destruction.
For o when I am weak,
For when I am weak,
then I am strong.
Then I am strong in Him.
