vs. 4 - Should this be a purpose or a result? A. If a purpose, then is it possible that it is not realized on earth? B. If a result, then why do we continue to sin? vs. 5 - Is this resurrection a future sense only, or should we also see here a realized eschatology. If so, why is it future tense? Would that be eisegeting too much? vs. 6 - the "old self" (ie - our carnal man) has been crucified with him; in order that "the body of sin" (ie - the bodily man, which he describes as the body of sin) would not have any influence on us. The relatinoship between the "old man" and the "body of sin" seems to be one of realized eschatology. In other words - the old self is dead, but the body of sin can still have sway over us. The point of this verse seems to say that our old man was crucified in order to free our bodily man of the slavery to sin until the resurrection of the dead. Does this say that you can be sinless in the body? Or just the opposite?
