Verse 12 restated: If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray, then he most certainly leaves the 99 on the mountains and goes in search of the one that went astray! Verses 12-13: The result of a successful search is great rejoicing! Verse 14: The parable in vv. 12-13 is an illustration of the Father's heart that not one child should perish. Verses 12-14 ground the command in v. 10a: Do not despise one of these little ones. Thus the command to care for children is ultimately rooted in the Father's heart for children!
