Main Point
Abide in God, Keep his commandments, love one another, and thereby, be filled with joy.
My Translation
John 15 :9-13 9. Just as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you, abide in my love. 10. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I keep my Father's commandments and remain in his love. 11. this I say to you, in order that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
verse application:
1. Jesus Loves me. That Jesus loves me, is no small matter. I - even when I a rebel towards Christ, hating and despising him, rejecting him - am loved by Christ Jesus. Jesus has done the greatest act of love in laying down his life for me. Furthermore, I learn in these verses that his love for me is as great as the bond of love between the Son and the Father, which is a love beyond what man can even comprehend. Therefore, if Christ loves me this much, should I not be willing to love others with a Christ like love no matter how much it hurts? 2. I am commanded to love. I am commanded to abide in God's love and to love like Christ. I do not have options. I cannot pick and choose who to love. I am not told to love other's only when it's easy to love or when the person is loveable. I am commanded to love other's like Christ and that means all peoples at all time. 3. I cannot be abiding in God If I have don't have love. To have no love is to separate myself from the love of Christ and that is the worst and most dangerous place to be. To be separated from Christ's love is to be damned. I cannot be abiding in God's love if I am not keeping his commandment to love others, but nor can I love others without Christ giving me his love first enabling me to love others. 4. My joy can only be full when I abide in Christ's love. There is true joy that comes in abiding in Christ and keeping his commandments. God delights in giving his children joy, but that joy is only found in abiding in him. Yet I cannot have this joy if I am not abiding in love. Joy is found in abiding in Christ's love and loving others with the love that he fills us with.
