Central Idea When Jesus taught the people, he used a parable to describe the truth he wanted to convey. Explanations I would contend that all of the beginning would be Jesus’ action (1-3a) and the rest of the pericope is Jesus manner of teaching. There is a series of situations that warrant responses at the beginning. Each soil type in the parable would be an alternative location for the seed. Each soil type involves an action and result. The last verse is a call to understand and not just listen to a story. Insights Before this exercise, I had always seen the actions of the sower resulting in four different scenarios. I did not realize how complicated the second situation was compared to the other three. There is probably some significance to how much time Jesus spends on this type of soil, a special concern for the need for depth.
