Central Idea Jesus explains the meaning of the parable of the tares. Explanations The situation was that Jesus was away from the crowds, and the response was the disciples asking for some clarification. The question was what the parable meant, and Jesus answered with an explanation. The first part of the explanation was simply a series of identifications (37-39). The ideas were then explained to make sense of the parable. The alternative to the tares would be the wheat which are the righteous. Therefore, those with ears should use them. Insights I had not seen that the first part of the explanation of this parable is simply a cast list. Once again, the parable ends with a ‘therefore’ statement.
