Central Idea Jesus is explaining what is going to happen and giving reason why the sent disciples should not be afraid of such things. Explanations The ideas of 26-27 show a strong idea of progression, that each idea seems to build off the previous one, and sections build off the previous ones. Insights I think someone could make a good argument that some of the sections that I listed are more of a series rather than a progression (i.e. 35-36), but I would argue that these are progressions because of the intensifying feeling of Jesus’ teachings. If this is just a list of things to remember, it feels like a rather long discourse. However, if the things that Jesus says increase in intensity as he progresses to new and bolder ideas, then there is power in this pericope, in my opinion.
