What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.
Τί οὖν ἐστιν, ἀδελφοί;
Then, what is this, brothers?

ὅταν συνέρχησθε,
When you would gather together,
Occasion of 26 c-g
ἕκαστος ψαλμὸν ἔχει,
each one is having a psalm,
Specification of 26a
διδαχὴν ἔχει,
is having a teaching,
ἀποκάλυψιν ἔχει,
is having a revelation,
γλῶσσαν ἔχει,
is having language,
ἑρμηνείαν ἔχει•
is having interpretation;
πάντα πρὸς οἰκοδομὴν γινέσθω.
Let all things be (for) edification.
Command based on 26a-g
If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret.
εἴτε γλώσσῃ τις λαλεῖ,
If anyone is speaking a language,
Situation #1
κατὰ δύο ἢ τὸ πλεῖστον τρεῖς
by two or the most three,
Manner #1
καὶ ἀνὰ μέρος,
and each a part,
Manner #2
καὶ εἷς διερμηνευέτω•
and let one be interpreting;
Manner #3
But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God.
ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ᾖ διερμηνευτής,
but if there would be no interpreter,
Condition of 28b
σιγάτω ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ,
let him be being silent in church,
Manner #4
ἑαυτῷ δὲ λαλείτω καὶ τῷ θεῷ.
and let him be speaking to himself and to God.
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said.
προφῆται δὲ δύο ἢ τρεῖς λαλείτωσαν
Now, let two or three prophets be speaking
Situation #2
καὶ οἱ ἄλλοι διακρινέτωσαν•
and let others be discerning;
If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent.
ἐὰν δὲ ἄλλῳ ἀποκαλυφθῇ καθημένῳ,
but if it would be revealed to another who is sitting down,
Condition of 30b
ὁ πρῶτος σιγάτω.
let the first one be being silent.
Manner of 29
For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged,
δύνασθε γὰρ καθʼ ἕνα πάντες προφητεύειν,
For you all are able to be prophesying one by one,
Explanation of 30[
ἵνα πάντες μανθάνωσιν καὶ πάντες παρακαλῶνται.
in order that all would be learning and all would be exhorted.
Purpose of 31a
and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
καὶ πνεύματα προφητῶν προφήταις ὑποτάσσεται,
And the spirit of the prophets are being subjected to the prophets,
Result of 29
For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ἀκαταστασίας ὁ θεὸς ἀλλʼ εἰρήνης.
For God is not of disorder but of peace.
Reason for 29-32
Ὡς ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῶν ἁγίων
as in all the churches of the saints.
Sphere of 29-33
the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says.
αἱ γυναῖκες ἐν ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις σιγάτωσαν•
Let the wives be being silent in the churches;
Situation #3
οὐ γὰρ ἐπιτρέπεται αὐταῖς λαλεῖν,
for it was not permitted for them to speak
Reason for 34a
ἀλλʼ ὑποτασσέσθωσαν,
but they are to be being subjected,
Contrast to 34b
καθὼς καὶ ὁ νόμος λέγει.
just as the law also is saying.
Basis for 34b-c
If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
εἰ δέ τι μαθεῖν θέλουσιν,
But if they are desiring to learn anything,
Condition of 35b
ἐν οἴκῳ τοὺς ἰδίους ἄνδρας ἐπερωτάτωσαν•
let them ask their own husbands at home;
Concession of 34a
αἰσχρὸν γάρ ἐστιν γυναικὶ λαλεῖν ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ.
for it is shameful to a wife to speak in church.
Reason for 35a-b
Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached?
ἢ ἀφʼ ὑμῶν ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ ἐξῆλθεν,
Was it from you the word of God came out,
Argument for 37b
ἢ εἰς ὑμᾶς μόνους κατήντησεν;
or did it come to you only?
If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord.
Εἴ τις δοκεῖ προφήτης εἶναι ἢ πνευματικός,
If anyone is thinking to be a prophet or a spiritual person,
Condition of 37b
ἐπιγινωσκέτω ἃ γράφω ὑμῖν ὅτι κυρίου ἐστὶν ἐντολή•
Let him be recognizing that which I am writing to you that is a command of the Lord;
Situation #4
If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.
εἰ δέ τις ἀγνοεῖ,
but if anyone is not aware of this,
Condition of 38b
ἀγνοεῖται.
he is being unaware.
Contrast to 37b
So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
Ὥστε, ἀδελφοί [μου], ζηλοῦτε
Therefore, my brothers, be being zealous
