Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,

which also I received,
ἐν ᾧ καὶ ἑστήκατε,
in which also you have stood,
and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you— unless you believed in vain.
διʼ οὗ καὶ σῴζεσθε,
by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
through which also you are being saved,
τίνι λόγῳ εὐηγγελισάμην ὑμῖν εἰ κατέχετε,
if you are holding fast the word which I preached to you,
ἐκτὸς εἰ μὴ εἰκῇ ἐπιστεύσατε.
except you believed in vain.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
παρέδωκα γὰρ ὑμῖν

After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
then he was seen by above 500 brothers at once,
ἐξ ὧν οἱ πλείονες μένουσιν ἕως ἄρτι,
from of which many are remaining until now,
τινὲς δὲ ἐκοιμήθησαν•
but some fell asleep;
Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
ἔπειτα ὤφθη Ἰακώβῳ εἶτα τοῖς ἀποστόλοις πᾶσιν•
then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;

Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
ἔσχατον δὲ πάντων ὡσπερεὶ τῷ ἐκτρώματι ὤφθη κἀμοί.

For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
Ἐγὼ γάρ εἰμι ὁ ἐλάχιστος τῶν ἀποστόλων
For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
For I myself am the lesser of the apostles,
ὃς οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς καλεῖσθαι ἀπόστολος,
who is not fit to be called an apostle
διότι ἐδίωξα τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ θεοῦ•
because I persecuted the church of God;
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
χάριτι δὲ θεοῦ εἰμι ὅ εἰμι,
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.
but by the grace of God, I am who I am,
καὶ ἡ χάρις αὐτοῦ ἡ εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ κενὴ ἐγενήθη,
and his grace did not become vain to me.
ἀλλὰ περισσότερον αὐτῶν πάντων ἐκοπίασα,
but I labored (more) abundantly (than) all of them,
οὐκ ἐγὼ δὲ ἀλλʼ ἡ χάρις τοῦ θεοῦ [ἡ] σὺν ἐμοί.
but (it was) not I, but the grace of God which is in me.
Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
εἴτε οὖν ἐγὼ εἴτε ἐκεῖνοι, οὕτως κηρύσσομεν καὶ οὕτως ἐπιστεύσατε.
Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
Therefore, whether I or they, thus we preached and thus you believed.
Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς κηρύσσεται ὅτι ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγήγερται,
Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
Now if Christ is being preached that he has been raised up from the dead ones,

πῶς λέγουσιν ἐν ὑμῖν τινες ὅτι ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν;
how (are) some among you saying that "there is no resurrection from the dead?"

οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται•
neither has Christ have been raised up;
And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.
εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται,
and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.
and if Christ has not been raised up,
Condition-conclusion #2
κενὸν ἄρα [καὶ] τὸ κήρυγμα ἡμῶν, κενὴ καὶ ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν•
therefore, our preaching is (in) vain, and our faith is (in) vain.
We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised.
εὑρισκόμεθα δὲ καὶ ψευδομάρτυρες τοῦ θεοῦ,
Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.
And we are also found as false witnesses of God,
ὅτι ἐμαρτυρήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι ἤγειρεν τὸν Χριστόν,
because we testified against God that he raised up Christ,

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
ἔσχατος ἐχθρὸς καταργεῖται ὁ θάνατος•
The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
Death, the last enemy being abolished;
For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.
πάντα γὰρ ὑπέταξεν ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ.
For He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.
For he subjected all things under his feet.
ὅταν δὲ εἴπῃ ὅτι πάντα ὑποτέτακται,
and when he says that "all things have been put under subjection,"
δῆλον ὅτι ἐκτὸς τοῦ ὑποτάξαντος αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα.
(he is) beside the one putting all things in subjection by him (is),
When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.
ὅταν δὲ ὑποταγῇ αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα,
When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.
and when all things would be put in subjection by him,
τότε [καὶ] αὐτὸς ὁ υἱὸς ὑποταγήσεται
then the son himself also will be put in subjection
τῷ ὑποτάξαντι αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα,
by the one who subjected all things to him,
ἵνα ᾖ ὁ θεὸς [τὰ] πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν.
in order that God would be all in all.
Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf?
Ἐπεὶ τί ποιήσουσιν οἱ βαπτιζόμενοι ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν;
Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?
Since what will those who are being baptized for the dead do?
εἰ ὅλως νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται,
if, the dead ones are actually not being raised up,
τί καὶ βαπτίζονται ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν;
why are they being baptized for them at all?
Why are we in danger every hour?
Τί καὶ ἡμεῖς κινδυνεύομεν πᾶσαν ὥραν;
Why are we also in danger every hour?
Why are we also being in dagner every hour?
I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day!
καθʼ ἡμέραν ἀποθνῄσκω,
I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
I am dying throughout the day,
νὴ τὴν ὑμετέραν καύχησιν, [ἀδελφοί],
by your boasting, brothers,
ἣν ἔχω ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν.
which I am having in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
εἰ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον ἐθηριομάχησα ἐν Ἐφέσῳ, τί μοι τὸ ὄφελος;
If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.
If according to man, I fought the wild animals in Ephesus, what (is) the benefit to me?
εἰ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται,
if the dead are not being raised up,
φάγωμεν καὶ πίωμεν, αὔριον γὰρ ἀποθνῄσκομεν.
Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we are dying.
Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
μὴ πλανᾶσθε•
Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
Do not be being deceived:
φθείρουσιν ἤθη χρηστὰ ὁμιλίαι κακαί.
evil association is corrupting good habits.
Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
ἐκνήψατε δικαίως
Become sober- minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
Come to your senses righteously
καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε,
and do not be sinning
ἀγνωσίαν γὰρ θεοῦ τινες ἔχουσιν,
for some are having the ignorance of God,
πρὸς ἐντροπὴν ὑμῖν λαλῶ.
I am saying this to your shame.
But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?”
Ἀλλʼ ἐρεῖ τις• πῶς ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροί; ποίῳ δὲ σώματι ἔρχονται;
But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?”
But someone will say: "How are the dead being raised up? And what sort of body are they coming?
You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
ἄφρων, σὺ ὃ σπείρεις, οὐ ζῳοποιεῖται ἐὰν μὴ ἀποθάνῃ•
You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies;
Fool! You yourself are sowing that which is not being made alive except it would die;
And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.
καὶ ὃ σπείρεις, οὐ τὸ σῶμα τὸ γενησόμενον σπείρεις
and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else.
and that which you are sowing, you are not sowing the body that will be,
ἀλλὰ γυμνὸν κόκκον εἰ τύχοι σίτου ἤ τινος τῶν λοιπῶν•
but a naked wheat/grain, if it may obtain wheat or something of the rest;
But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.
ὁ δὲ θεὸς δίδωσιν αὐτῷ σῶμα καθὼς ἠθέλησεν,
But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own.
but God is giving to him a body just as he desired,
καὶ ἑκάστῳ τῶν σπερμάτων ἴδιον σῶμα.
and to each one of the seeds, its own body.
For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.
Οὐ πᾶσα σὰρξ ἡ αὐτὴ σὰρξ
All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish.
Not all flesh (is) the same flesh
ἀλλʼ ἄλλη μὲν ἀνθρώπων,
but another of man,
ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ κτηνῶν,
and another flesh of beasts,
ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ πτηνῶν,
and another flesh of birds,
ἄλλη δὲ ἰχθύων.
and another of fish.
There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another.
καὶ σώματα ἐπουράνια, καὶ σώματα ἐπίγεια•
There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.
And heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies;
ἀλλʼ ἑτέρα μὲν ἡ τῶν ἐπουρανίων δόξα,
but another of a different kind of the glory of the heavenly bodies,
ἑτέρα δὲ ἡ τῶν ἐπιγείων.
and another kind of the earthly (bodies).
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
ἄλλη δόξα ἡλίου,
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
another glory of the son,
καὶ ἄλλη δόξα σελήνης,
and another glory of the moon,
καὶ ἄλλη δόξα ἀστέρων•
and another glory of the stars;
ἀστὴρ γὰρ ἀστέρος διαφέρει ἐν δόξῃ.
for a star differs (from) a star in glory.
So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable.
Οὕτως καὶ ἡ ἀνάστασις τῶν νεκρῶν.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body;
In this manner also (is) the resurrection of the dead.
σπείρεται ἐν φθορᾷ, ἐγείρεται ἐν ἀφθαρσίᾳ•
It is being sown in corruptible (body), (but) being raised up in immortality;
It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
σπείρεται ἐν ἀτιμίᾳ, ἐγείρεται ἐν δόξῃ•
it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
it is being sown in dishonor,it is being raised up in glory
σπείρεται ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ, ἐγείρεται ἐν δυνάμει•
it is being sown in weakness, (but) it is being raised up in power;
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
σπείρεται σῶμα ψυχικόν, ἐγείρεται σῶμα πνευματικόν.
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
it is being sown a natural body, (but) it is being raised up a spiritual body.
Εἰ ἔστιν σῶμα ψυχικόν, ἔστιν καὶ πνευματικόν.
If (there) is a natural body, (then) (there) is also a spiritual (body).
Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life- giving spirit.
οὕτως καὶ γέγραπται•
So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life- giving spirit.
Thus also it has been written:
ἐγένετο ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος Ἀδὰμ εἰς ψυχὴν ζῶσαν,
the first man, Adam, became into a living soul,
ὁ ἔσχατος Ἀδὰμ εἰς πνεῦμα ζῳοποιοῦν.
the last Adam into a life-giving spirit.
But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.
ἀλλʼ οὐ πρῶτον τὸ πνευματικὸν
However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual.
However the first is not the spiritual,
ἀλλὰ τὸ ψυχικόν, ἔπειτα τὸ πνευματικόν.
but the natural, then the spiritual.
The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven.
ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος ἐκ γῆς χοϊκός,
The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven.
The first man from the earth is earthy,
ὁ δεύτερος ἄνθρωπος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ.
the second man (is) from heaven.
As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
οἷος ὁ χοϊκός, τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ χοϊκοί,
As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.
Similar to the earthy, such also are the earthy ones,
καὶ οἷος ὁ ἐπουράνιος, τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ ἐπουράνιοι•
similar to the heavenly, such also are the heavenly ones;
Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
καὶ καθὼς ἐφορέσαμεν τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ χοϊκοῦ,
Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.
just as we bear the image of the earthy,
φορέσομεν καὶ τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ ἐπουρανίου.
we will bear also the image of the heavenly.
I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Τοῦτο δέ φημι, ἀδελφοί, ὅτι
Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Now I am saying this thing, brothers, that
σὰρξ καὶ αἷμα βασιλείαν θεοῦ κληρονομῆσαι οὐ δύναται
flesh and blood is not able to inherit the kingdom of God
οὐδὲ ἡ φθορὰ τὴν ἀφθαρσίαν κληρονομεῖ.
neither the perishable is inheriting the imperishable.
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
ἰδοὺ μυστήριον ὑμῖν λέγω·
Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,
Behold, I am telling you a mystery:
πάντες οὐ κοιμηθησόμεθα,
we all will not sleep,
πάντες δὲ ἀλλαγησόμεθα
but we will all be changed.
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

καὶ οἱ νεκροὶ ἐγερθήσονται ἄφθαρτοι

For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
Δεῖ γὰρ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀφθαρσίαν

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

δεῖ γὰρ αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν ἄχρι οὗ θῇ πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ.

Ἐπεὶ τί ποιήσουσιν οἱ βαπτιζόμενοι ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν; εἰ ὅλως νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται, τί καὶ βαπτίζονται ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν;
Τί καὶ ἡμεῖς κινδυνεύομεν πᾶσαν ὥραν;
καθʼ ἡμέραν ἀποθνῄσκω, νὴ τὴν ὑμετέραν καύχησιν, [ἀδελφοί], ἣν ἔχω ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν.
εἰ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον ἐθηριομάχησα ἐν Ἐφέσῳ, τί μοι τὸ ὄφελος; εἰ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται, φάγωμεν καὶ πίωμεν, αὔριον γὰρ ἀποθνῄσκομεν.
μὴ πλανᾶσθε• φθείρουσιν ἤθη χρηστὰ ὁμιλίαι κακαί.
ἐκνήψατε δικαίως καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε, ἀγνωσίαν γὰρ θεοῦ τινες ἔχουσιν, πρὸς ἐντροπὴν ὑμῖν λαλῶ.
Ἀλλʼ ἐρεῖ τις• πῶς ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροί; ποίῳ δὲ σώματι ἔρχονται;
ἄφρων, σὺ ὃ σπείρεις, οὐ ζῳοποιεῖται ἐὰν μὴ ἀποθάνῃ•
καὶ ὃ σπείρεις, οὐ τὸ σῶμα τὸ γενησόμενον σπείρεις ἀλλὰ γυμνὸν κόκκον εἰ τύχοι σίτου ἤ τινος τῶν λοιπῶν•
ὁ δὲ θεὸς δίδωσιν αὐτῷ σῶμα καθὼς ἠθέλησεν, καὶ ἑκάστῳ τῶν σπερμάτων ἴδιον σῶμα.
Οὐ πᾶσα σὰρξ ἡ αὐτὴ σὰρξ ἀλλʼ ἄλλη μὲν ἀνθρώπων, ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ κτηνῶν, ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ πτηνῶν, ἄλλη δὲ ἰχθύων.
καὶ σώματα ἐπουράνια, καὶ σώματα ἐπίγεια• ἀλλʼ ἑτέρα μὲν ἡ τῶν ἐπουρανίων δόξα, ἑτέρα δὲ ἡ τῶν ἐπιγείων.
ἄλλη δόξα ἡλίου, καὶ ἄλλη δόξα σελήνης, καὶ ἄλλη δόξα ἀστέρων• ἀστὴρ γὰρ ἀστέρος διαφέρει ἐν δόξῃ.
Οὕτως καὶ ἡ ἀνάστασις τῶν νεκρῶν. σπείρεται ἐν φθορᾷ, ἐγείρεται ἐν ἀφθαρσίᾳ•
σπείρεται ἐν ἀτιμίᾳ, ἐγείρεται ἐν δόξῃ• σπείρεται ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ, ἐγείρεται ἐν δυνάμει•
σπείρεται σῶμα ψυχικόν, ἐγείρεται σῶμα πνευματικόν. Εἰ ἔστιν σῶμα ψυχικόν, ἔστιν καὶ πνευματικόν.
οὕτως καὶ γέγραπται• ἐγένετο ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος Ἀδὰμ εἰς ψυχὴν ζῶσαν, ὁ ἔσχατος Ἀδὰμ εἰς πνεῦμα ζῳοποιοῦν.
ἀλλʼ οὐ πρῶτον τὸ πνευματικὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ ψυχικόν, ἔπειτα τὸ πνευματικόν.
ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος ἐκ γῆς χοϊκός, ὁ δεύτερος ἄνθρωπος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ.
οἷος ὁ χοϊκός, τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ χοϊκοί, καὶ οἷος ὁ ἐπουράνιος, τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ ἐπουράνιοι•
καὶ καθὼς ἐφορέσαμεν τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ χοϊκοῦ, φορέσομεν καὶ τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ ἐπουρανίου.
Τοῦτο δέ φημι, ἀδελφοί, ὅτι σὰρξ καὶ αἷμα βασιλείαν θεοῦ κληρονομῆσαι οὐ δύναται οὐδὲ ἡ φθορὰ τὴν ἀφθαρσίαν κληρονομεῖ.
