I take the ὥστε in v16 as a result, rather than an inference, although that might be possible. The reason I take ὥστε as a result is because result better fits the semantic range of the conjunction, and because I believe that sending Jesus was as natural a result of God's love for people as falling when tripped. What an amazing loving God! (also see Wallace, p.668, for his take on this). Also, I take the γὰρ in v17 as an explanatory γὰρ, rather than as a ground. The reason that I take γὰρ as explanatory is because it is a natural use of the Greek word (see Wallace, p. 658, 667ff.) I love arcing through these few verses. They are common verses, but the depth is incredible. To see that sending Jesus was a result of God's love, that also had purpose is mind-boggling. It always leads me to worship.
