Now I say, as long as the heir is a child,
he is no different than a slave,
even though he is lord of everything.
concessive
temporal
He is under guardians and managers
until the appointed time of the father.
ideaexplanation
So also we, when we were children,
we were enslaved under the elements of the world.
comparison
But when the fullness of the time came,
God sent forth his son,
who was born of a woman,
born under law,
series
in order that he might redeem those under law,
in order that we might receive the adoption as sons.
actionpurpose
negativepositive
Now because you are sons,
God sent the spirit of his son into our hearts crying, "Abba, Father."
inference
Therefore, you are no longer a slave
but a son.
But if [you are] a son,
[then you are] also an heir through God.

progression
Now when you did not know God
you were enslaved to the things that by nature are not gods.
But now, after coming to know God,
or rather, to be known by God,
how is it that you are returning again to the weak and worthless elelements
οἷς πάλιν ἄνωθεν δουλεύειν θέλετε;
to which you are wishing to be enslaved all over again?
You are observing days and months and seasons and years,
situationresponse
I am fearing about you
that somehow I have labored for you in vain.
