The King
Καὶ ὅτε ἐγγίζουσιν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα
As they approached Jerusalem,

καὶ εὐθὺς εἰσπορευόμενοι εἰς αὐτὴν
and immediately as you enter it,

you will find a colt tied there,
ἐφʼ ὃν οὐδεὶς οὔπω ἀνθρώπων ἐκάθισεν•

καὶ ἐάν τις ὑμῖν εἴπῃ•
If anyone says to you,

ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ χρείαν ἔχει,
‘The Lord has need of it’;

and immediately he will send it back here.”
καὶ ἀπῆλθον
They went away
καὶ εὗρον πῶλον
and found a colt
δεδεμένον πρὸς θύραν
tied at the door,

Some of the bystanders were saying to them,
τί ποιεῖτε
“What are you doing,
λύοντες τὸν πῶλον;
untying the colt?”

οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτοῖς
They spoke to them
καθὼς εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς,
just as Jesus had told them,

Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting:
ὡσαννά•
“Hosanna!
εὐλογημένος ὁ ἐρχόμενος ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου•
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
εὐλογημένη ἡ ἐρχομένη βασιλεία τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν Δαυίδ•
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David;
ὡσαννὰ ἐν τοῖς ὑψίστοις.
Hosanna in the highest!”
The Priest
Καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα
Jesus entered Jerusalem
εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν
and came into the temple;

καὶ περιβλεψάμενος πάντα,
and after looking around at everything,

He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it;

He found nothing but leaves,

He said to it,
μηκέτι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἐκ σοῦ μηδεὶς καρπὸν φάγοι.
“May no one ever eat fruit from you again!”
καὶ ἤκουον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ.
And His disciples were listening.
Καὶ ἔρχονται εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα.
Then they came to Jerusalem.
* Καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν
And He entered the temple

ἤρξατο ἐκβάλλειν τοὺς πωλοῦντας καὶ τοὺς ἀγοράζοντας
and began to drive out those who were buying and selling
ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ,
in the temple,

καὶ τὰς τραπέζας τῶν κολλυβιστῶν καὶ τὰς καθέδρας τῶν πωλούντων τὰς περιστερὰς κατέστρεψεν,
and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves;
καὶ οὐκ ἤφιεν ἵνα τις διενέγκῃ σκεῦος διὰ τοῦ ἱεροῦ.
and He would not permit anyone to carry merchandise through the temple.
καὶ ἐδίδασκεν
And He began to teach
καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς•
and say to them,
οὐ γέγραπται
“Is it not written,
ὅτι ὁ οἶκός μου οἶκος προσευχῆς κληθήσεται πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν;
‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’?
ὑμεῖς δὲ πεποιήκατε αὐτὸν σπήλαιον λῃστῶν.
But you have made it a robbers’ den.”
Καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς
The chief priests and the scribes heard this,
καὶ ἐζήτουν πῶς αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν•
and began seeking how to destroy Him;
ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ αὐτόν,
for they were afraid of Him,

πᾶς γὰρ ὁ ὄχλος ἐξεπλήσσετο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ.
for the whole crowd was astonished at His teaching.

Καὶ ὅταν ὀψὲ ἐγένετο,
When evening came,

they would go out of the city.
Καὶ παραπορευόμενοι πρωῒ
As they were passing by in the morning,

they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up.
καὶ ἀναμνησθεὶς

Peter said to Him,
ῥαββί, ἴδε ἡ συκῆ ἣν κατηράσω ἐξήρανται.
“Rabbi, look, the fig tree which You cursed has withered.”
καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγει αὐτοῖς•
And Jesus answered saying to them,
ἔχετε πίστιν θεοῦ.
“Have faith in God.
ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν
[ø] Truly I say to you,

ὅτι ὃς ἂν εἴπῃ τῷ ὄρει τούτῳ•
whoever says to this mountain,
Explanation of v. 23f
ἄρθητι καὶ βλήθητι εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν,
‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’
καὶ μὴ διακριθῇ ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ
and does not doubt in his heart,
ἀλλὰ πιστεύῃ ὅτι ὃ λαλεῖ γίνεται,
but believes that what he says is going to happen,
ἔσται αὐτῷ.
it will be granted him.
διὰ τοῦτο λέγω ὑμῖν,
Therefore I say to you,
Inference of v. 23
πάντα ὅσα προσεύχεσθε καὶ αἰτεῖσθε, πιστεύετε ὅτι ἐλάβετε,
all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them,
καὶ ἔσται ὑμῖν.
and they will be granted you.
Καὶ ὅταν στήκετε προσευχόμενοι,
Whenever you stand praying,
Temporal of v. 25b
ἀφίετε
forgive,
εἴ τι ἔχετε κατά τινος,
if you have anything against anyone,
Condition of v. 25b
ἵνα καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς ἀφῇ ὑμῖν τὰ παραπτώματα ὑμῶν.
so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.
Purpose of v. 25b
Why tell us this?
This point indicates that the "all things for which you pray and ask" in v. 24 refers primarily to divine forgiveness.
Καὶ ὅτε ἐγγίζουσιν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα εἰς Βηθφαγὴ καὶ Βηθανίαν πρὸς τὸ ὄρος τῶν ἐλαιῶν, ἀποστέλλει δύο τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ
