See google doc also The descent of Christ, and the glory He received and will receive are such great heights and depths. The goodness of such humility is not in the going down by itself. But it lies in the confidence that that humility will be rightly rewarded by the Father. This is important because if I think that just humility itself is joyful, then it's actual lack of joy cannot feed me. I have made this mistake many times in my life. And I could not sustain the humble act. It does come down to finding joy and security, hope and reward in God. Summary Jesus was the ultimate example of the Person who humbly serves and rightly does so from the right bases. He did not strive to hold onto the status and place of being God, but deprived Himself of that exalted position by being a slave, servant and becoming human. More than that, He obeyed even to the point of death. Elect Exiles (green rectangle and highlight) Observations Motivations for elect exiles are not to be selfish ambition or vainglory v.3 They are to be for humility, counting others as more important to serve than just myself v.3 to be concerned for myself v.4 but not myself alone, but one another v.4 Mindset should be the same as Jesus (please see above on the description of Christ) v.5 Questions/Thoughts Is the "others", and "towards one another" fellow believers or including unbelievers also? Summary Believers (elect exiles) are to serve one another, not out to get some advancement or honour for ourselves, but to consider others to have priority in serving than ourselves. Believers are to be concerned for our own interests, but not just that solely, and not ultimately the highest priority, or higher than the other. Believers are to follow such humble service as Jesus has done. Takeaway For me, after having failed many times, trying humble service for it's own sake, I am taking away here that Jesus was able to do such humble acts by Heb 12:2. So I shall pray and work towards looking to that Joy that Jesus had before Him, and then out of that trust of God's care, security, reward, joy, I shall pray and seek to do as Jesus did in humble service.
