Warning Concerning Antichrists 18 Children, a it is the last hour, and as you have heard that b antichrist is coming, so now c many antichrists have come. d Therefore we know that it is the last hour. 19 e They went out from us, but they were not of us; for f if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, g that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
1 John 2:22
22 Who is the liar but k he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is b the antichrist , he who denies the Father and the Son.
1 John 4:2-3
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: y every spirit that confesses that z Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit a that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist , which you heard was coming and b now is in the world already.
2 John 7
7 For l many deceivers m have gone out into the world, n those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist .

Study Questions: 1a. When you read the word “antichrist,” what do you think of? How about antichrist*s*? From just my own thoughts, Someone against Christ Someone who is the ultimate enemy of Christ Someone who pretends to be Christ but is the ultimate opposite of Christ Someone who is or belongs to the great accuser, evil one, the devil 1b. What is the "antichrist(s)" as found in the Bible? (see Principle for Bible Reading below) Found only four times in the whole canon of the Bible: 1 John 2:18-19; 1 John 2:22; 1 John 4:2-3; 2 John 7. Refer to Look-Up passages above, general observations include: they carry the title "antichrist(s)" Presence of antichrist(s) signal the "last hour" they were foretold that they would come there are more than one indication that there is THE antichrist (1 John 2:18) who will come after the other antichrists there are many they emerge out of a group of true believers, true followers of Jesus by leaving the group of true followers, it is shown that they are not true, and are "antichrist(s)" so it is possible not to be able to distinguish that "antichristness" while they remain with true believers they are liars they are deceivers (which is like being a liars but encompasses other ways of deception) they deny that Jesus is the Messiah they deny the Father and the Son they deny and do not confess that Jesus has come in the flesh, i.e. the incarnation they are presently found in the world they have a spirit of the "antichrist" they go out into the world 2. In 1 John 2:18 , John tells us that many antichrists have come and are in the world. What does he go on to say that means for us? That this means this age is the last hour. The end is indeed near. 3. Are there any practical benefits to knowing what antichrists are like? It is good to know the enemy good to prepare against especially deception encourages us to be established in truth encourages us that this is the last hour, and the end may be very soon Excerpt from desiringgod.org website on this LAB: Principle for Bible Reading Searching in Concentric Circles When seeking for answers concerning how a biblical author uses a word or phrase in a particular verse, it is often helpful to start by seeking answers in the immediate context and then moving outward. When wrestling with a text, good Bible reading, like a stone dropped in a pond, starts at the word or phrase in question and ripples out to other places in the Bible to get help for understanding. Starting your search in the immediate verse and moving outward is often called searching in concentric circles. After searching in the immediate verse, it is key to look for the author’s meaning in: The paragraph which contains the verse Then the chapter Then its book as a whole Then other books written by the same author Then the same Testament (New or Old) as a whole Then the whole Bible
