In this lab, Pastor John gives us six parts of a Christian worldview. Principle for Bible Reading All thoughts are not created equal, all opinions are not valid, and no worldview matters but God’s. In this lab, Pastor John gives us six parts of a Christian worldview. Do the Commands Relate? When a paragraph gives a lot of expectations or commands, a helpful question to ask is: Do these commands relate to one another? Sometimes obeying one has a direct effect on obeying the other. Study Questions When confronted with a paragraph of the Bible, how do you go about studying it? Read 1 Peter 4:12–19 and number all of the commands/expectations that Peter gives us. Which of these seems most applicable to you in this season of life? If a neighbor asked you what your Christian worldview consists of, how would you answer them? Thoughts: I really appreciated this LAB because it went beyond arcing to forming a worldview. I see how this is so helpful to translate the Bible from knowing the text to living it. I'm so grateful to God for it. The answers to the study questions are found in the phrase module below.

Textual Flow of the Commands/Imperatives
The Text Itself

Beloved,
do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
Know that suffering happens
Imperative 2
But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator
Trust God to be faithful
Imperative 6
while doing good.
Do good
Forming a Worldview
1. Theology/Doctrine: know that suffering happens.
2. Faith: trust God.
3. Hope: do not be ashamed.
4. Joy: rejoice.
5. Love: do good.
6. Glorify God: this happens after we do good.
Forming a worldview requires us to see how the various points,
in this case imperatives, are related to each other as we apply them in life.
This requires reflection and thought,
along with some ideas of how the rest of Scripture addresses how these imperatives are related.
I realise that forming a worldview is more than just seeing the flow of a text,
which I'm used to in arcing.
It requires thought beyond that to ask
how are the points in a passage affecting the way we live.
It's what Pastor Piper calls the difference between
textual pattern and reality pattern.
Here, theology leads to faith,
which leads to hope,
which leads to joy,
where out of joy comes love in the form of doing good,
which then leads to glorifying God.
