1 Peter 5:7-9
esv
mine
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
God's sovereign grace means that we can cast all anxieties on Him. But does this mean that we don't do squat? No!
Note that all text in blue bold signify God's grace. Red bold letters are what we are to do if we have received God's grace.
This means we are free from anxiety but it does not mean that we can just sit back and do nothing.
It means that we are now free to think, feel and do things that are out of His grace, not our fear. Things such as:
Be sober- minded;
1. Being calm and temperate
be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
2. Being actively cautious
Resist him,
3. Opposing, withstanding, resisting
firm in your faith,
4. Being solid, immoveable
knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
5. having information about the nature of this suffering
1 Peter 4:10-11 As each has received a gift,
use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
6. serve as in an obligation to do so
whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God;
7. utter words, speak, say things
whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
8. perform duties
Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed,
9. follow instructions
so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
10. causing a state in order to bring about a condition, producing, creating
1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain.
On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
11. exerting physically, mentally, spiritually, working hard, toiling, struggling
Ephesians 6:10-11 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
12. becoming able to function or do things, performing
Put on the whole armor of God,
13. Putting the armor on for ourselves
that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
14. standing up against, resisting
