-Jesus loves marriage and He clearly establishes that the problem with marriages is not the institution in itself but the sin of men. Our unbelief, our hardness of heart, is what spoils everything beautiful, pure, and sacred that God designed intrinsically to be attached to marriage. -So why did Moses allow a man to write a certificate of divorce to send his wife away? For the same reason—because our hardness of heart. By that God, through Moses law, was protecting the rejected wife, freeing her from the bondage of a wicked husband who would not take her, but would probably use his “one flesh with his wife” against a possible remarriage of the wife. -But Jesus explains the ground why when a man leaves father and mother and hold fast to his wife he becomes one flesh with her wife, and this union is forever because what God has joined together stays together, and man is not in the right to separate it. The design, the union, the act of drawing them together and make them one flesh is God’s; therefore it will always be like that even when men try to break it. It seems that in God’s eyes husband and wife are bonded for eternity. -Thank you, God, for giving us a relationship where we can be images of your reality. Help us to be image barriers of your Son and His bride.
