-This is the response to the question that arises when we see the Son of God cursing a fig tree. The root of Israel ’s sin and ours is unbelief. The clear teaching of Jesus to His disciples is, “Have faith in God.” And this has an enormous implication—ask God everything we need, in real dependence, in desperation, in constant supplication, believing in the heart that we will receive it from His good hands, and not doubting—and the result of that trust in the benevolence, power and sovereignty of God is that it will be done for us. So why do we not receive what we ask so eagerly? Probably because either (1) we are not sincerely believing we will receive it, or (2) God’s sovereign wisdom knows that by receiving this it will not be for our ultimate good, or (3) Gods’ sovereign mercy has appointed another time to give this to us for our sake. But the central focus of the passage is not to give up on praying; pray unceasingly with faith to receive God’s good gifts purchased in the cross for us through Jesus. -In addition Jesus says that when we are praying if we have anything against anyonewe should forgive for otherwise you will not be forgiven by your Father who is in heaven. This is huge. We will not be forgiven if we are not willing to forgive. And we are pending from a threat here, because we are sinners; constantly sinning against someone or being sinned against. God, give us your grace to forgive our fellow sinners. -So we are asked by Jesus to ask everything in prayer with faith so we can receive them, and forgive so we can be forgiven by the Father. Pray and forgive, your will receive and be forgiven.
